Pre Employment Assessment
A pre employment medical assessment is essential to ensure that any recommendations regarding reasonable adjustments, adaptations or restrictions can be considered prior to employment by taking full account of the Disability Discrimination Act 1995.
Many roles can be modified to accommodate the employee if there is a medical problem or disability. Other roles may need a medical assessment to comply with a statutory requirement under Health & Safety legislation. I.e. Lead, Asbestos, Confined Spaces.
Pre employment medical assessment can be completed in a variety of ways. Normally it is completed by the use of paper questionnaire screening where the candidate can be assessed without the need for a consultation. Sometimes the candidate is contacted for further information or they may be referred for a face-to-face consultation or medical assessment with the Occupational Health Advisor or Occupational Health Physician. Further information may also be sought from the candidates General Practitioner or Specialist.
Finally a report on fitness to work is issued as well as advice on any possible adjustments or restrictions that might be considered to ensure that the employee is able to carry out the requirements of the role.
